Week 1: On my first week of producing my magazine cover and double page spread the first thing I completed was analyzing some existing mastheads like vogue, Elle and cosmopolitan. This was a good task to complete before making my own magazine as I give me ideas of what mastheads catches peoples eye and appeals to audiences. I listed and chose the equipment I would like to use for my photoshoot and explained why they are useful. I then wrote up my initial proposal. My initial proposal described the genre of my magazine that I have chosen which is women’s fashion, my audience that I will be aiming to target (16-30 year olds) and who will institute my magazine. lastly I presented my research and work on my initil proposal and audience profile to my class mates in which they gave me feedback on.
Week 2: On week 2 I created a moodboard in which I collected costume ideas, double page spread layouts, colour connotations, image pose ideas and props/costume ideas. This made creating my magazine more organized and the process quicker. I firstly done research on what outfits/props were popular in the fashion industry (trends) so my magazine can appeal to my audience more. I gathered bags, hats, jumpers, jackets, trousers and shoes ideas. Then see what poses are the typical look for a front cover magazine. I collected more close up images as that is what I found was more popular.
Next I gathered some name ideas and described which ones would have appealed more to my audience and had a deeper meaning to them. After I had chosen the name of my magazine which was ‘Demure’ I chose the style I wanted it to be. I wanted the masthead to stand out and have an elegant style to it like vogue does so in that case my decision was a Lora font. Then I chose the colour connotations for the typography of my magazine. This included the sell lines, masthead and any other additional writing. As my background of my front cover was light blue I decided that white was the best colour to chose as it would stand out to my audience against the blue background.
Week 3: Week 3 consisted of creating my audience profile (who am I targeting & why), article drafts that I like and my initial proposal which consist of a description of my genre, audience and institution representation. I decided for my audience to be aged between 16 and 30 as the same fashion styles can appeal to all ages in todays society. I chose article drafts that talked about all the different aspects of fashion and is from another persons perspective. I chose who would institute my magazine (Conde Nast) and my genre being women’s high street fashion.
Week 4: Moving on to the promotional side I collected several social media platforms in which I could use to promote my magazine. I chose twitter, Instagram and snapchat as it is most used by young women and I can create my own account on all of those platforms. Along with using social media platforms to promote my magazine I will also use billboards placed in popular locations like London for example. Next is type my pre-production documents risk assessment, location recce, budget sheet, call sheet, model release form and location contract. Lastly I took images of my photoshoot set up and explained why I had chosen that setup.
Week 5: On week 5 I created a contact sheet of all the images I had taken within my 2 photoshoots and using the contact sheet I it was then easier for me to chose my final images in which I chose a front cover image and 8 double page spread images. Knowing my layout of my double page spread and front cover I sketched out the designs and posted them on my blog.
Week 6: On the final week I had created a front cover draft and my double page spreads/Article drafts which was my final product. Using my drafts I gathered constructive feedback from my peers to then either improve my work or keep it as it is.
