pre-production documentation

The use of a risk assessment document is to prevent risks for happening when completing your photoshoot. for example a risk can be tripping over a wire connected to a computer.
A model release form gives the right for yourself to take images of your model and can stop yourself from being sued. It also documents that the model has full understating of the process and what is going on. This prevents dishonesty within the process that you undertake.
A call sheet provides you and your model with significant information like the date, time and where the photoshoot will take place. it will state any requirements needed like props to bring and equipment needed to be used. Details of the shoot, special requirement and transport are also listed in this document. This document helps with organisation and is also useful for people who own the studio or equiptment that you will need to borrow.
Like the call sheet this document is for any equipment you will be borrowing for your shoot. This is again useful for yourself and the person who you will be borrowing the equipment from. It keeps you organized and makes sure that you do not lose any equipment. it tells us how many days you will need it for and the return date so you do not forget.
This location recce document gives information (address) on the location that you will be doing your shoot in. It discuses the considerations of the location for example risks, advantages, availabilities, and safety considerations. This document can also prevent you from any dangerou risks that could occur by identifying them first.

I have chosen to use a budget sheet as it helps me to keep track of the money I am spending on things like equipment and production processes. it helps me to not overspend as I have chosen a sensible amount of units needed for my production.
This is another location document however is the inside location (studio). This document confirms the agreement between the producer (myself) and Haydon school to use the premises granted. this prevents any confrontation or clashes with other students.

Sketches of front cover and DPS

magazine cover:

After getting constructive feedback on my magazine front cover I changed some of my sell lines that I had chosen. I swapped ‘fashion is the armour t survive everyday life’ with the sell line ‘winter trends’ as I feel that the quote wont appeal to my target audience as much and the winter trends sell line represents more what the genre of the magazine is.

This was my first article and design for one of my double page spreads. I felt that this layout and design was boring and did not appeal to my audience as much as it could have. the layout also did notlook like a typical fashion double page spread.
After doing research and looking at other magazines on what the typical fashion magazine look was, i altered my article to be layed out in columns rather than paragraphs, have a title on either page and only images that fill the A4 page on one of the sides of the double page spread.
My second double page spread here was very messy and did not identify with the typical magazine look. Some of my feedback points were to enlarge my images as they were too small and also to make the title larger so it stands out to my audience more.
I then had the typical fashion magazine look by enlarging the images I had, adding a bold title for my article and lastly instead of using paragraph for my layout i used columns

Chosen images

I have chosen to use this close up image of my model to be on the front cover of my magazine because it is very similar to other high end magazine brands like Elle and vogue as it attracts a larger audience. as you can see with my image ideas that I have chosen most of them are a close up or mid shot brining more attention to the model in the image.

I have then chosen these long shot images for the double page spread as it is a fashion magazine and it would appeal to the audience more if they could see the outfit on a model to get a better idea of what the outfit looks like.

The selection process of images:

firstly I printed off a contact sheet Of all my images that I had taken and also had the images up on my computer screen.

step 1. I deleted and crossed off the images That I either did not like or were too blurry to be used.

step 2. I selected the images I thought would appeal to my target audience more to be kept. For example images that show off the outfits more.

step 3. Next I sorted the images into groups of close ups, long shots and mid shots images and again selected those that I preferred and that look more like the they would be in a high end magazine. This then cut down all my images to around 10 images.

step 4. As the images we’re all different sizes and angles I created my template for my front cover and double page spread to see which images fitted in the best without me having to change and re arrange the layout as the layout I had chosen was similar to most popular magazines brands.

step 5: lastly I was left with my final front cover image and 7 images for my double page spreads.

Featured articles

I have chosen this collections of articles as they all talk about someone and their inspirational story which others can relate to so it appeals to their audience. I also like the layouts of the articles that being a good proportion between image and text like the typical magazine look. I am aiming for the typical fashion magazine layout that being usually a large A4 image on the left side and a article on the right.. like all 3 articles I also am going to have large bold writing so it catches the readers eye and encourage them to read on into the magazine.

Sell lines

  • Essential Winter cosmetic set
  • Cosy fashionable winter styles
  • Winter style fashion
  • Best guide to a great look
  • Affordable Christmas Gift guide
  • Winter bags, shoes & jewellery
  • The power of fashion
  • 5 perfect holiday gifts

I have chosen to use these varying sell lines as they are very typical to a high end fashion magazine. These sell lines being typical to an everyday magazine it will catch people’s eye and instantly know it’s a women’s fashion magazine. Also promoting a sneak peak of products and clothing items that will be inside the magazines again making them buy the magazine because the products inside sound interesting.

  • “I like my money right where I can see it, hanging in my closet” – Carrie Bradshaw
  • “Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.” – Rachel Zoe

I have also chosen to use 2 quotes from famous fashionistas that are very inspirational and have significant meaning to them. When my audience see the quotes on the front cover of my magazine it will make them want to know more about the inspiring quote.

Slogans:

  • ‘’A new look. A new read’’
  • ‘’Affordable ideas’’
  • ‘’Read outside of the box’’
  • ‘’Your mind. Your magazine’’

I have chosen these catchy but short slogans to get the audience to engage with the magazine and really have that urge to buy it.

Colour connotations

Image result for shades of grey colours"
Image result for shades of red"
Image result for shades of blue"
Image result for shades of pink"

I have chosen these light pastel colours so my background does not stand out too much and that my main image of my model is the thing that catches my audiences eye. I have also chosen light colours because it can be easily lightened or darkened using photoshop or in design. I have also chosen these colours so they can match with the model in my magazines outfit.

In order for my magazine to appeal to my target audience more I done some research on past magazine cover produced by popular fashion magazine brands for example vogue,Elle and cosmopolitan. I was making notes of all the different colour schemes that they used on their front covers and as vogue Elle and Cosmo are all very popular high end magazine productions they must know what their audience wants. I had chosen the colour Pastel pink as an idea as it is a very typical girly colour in which my audience are women so can appeal to them more. I had also chosen the colours red and blue as colour connotation ideas as they stand out and are quite vibrant colours so will catch my target audiences eye. Lastly grey was another idea as it a modern colour in today’s society.

Name ideas

Demure- the meaning of the adjective demure is a modest and shy women. I chose this name idea as my target audience for my magazine is women an the word demure has significant meaning to it

Refined- the meaning of refined is something being processed and unwanted elements being removed but also connotes with being stylish and elegant.

Guide- I chose this name as a idea for my magazine because I am aiming for my magazine to be a helpful fashion guide for women

Blush- I chose blush to be a name idea as blush connotes with makeup which most women use so when my target audience which is women see the name blush they can instantly identify that it is a women’s fashion magazine

Moda- Moda is French for the word fashion. I thought that this name would be unique and sound high end as vogue meaning style and fashion also sounds like the word originates from a different language .

Selection- I chose the name idea selection as with fashion you can select what style you want, colour and clothing items that you wish to wear and that it is all about selecting what you want that creates an outfit and puts an outfit together.
